253MA stainless steel, also known as UNS S30815, is a high-temperature alloy that combines excellent service properties with ease of fabrication. Let’s explore its applications across various industries:
Furnace Components:
253MA is widely used in furnace applications, including burners, retorts, conveyor belts, fans, and jigs.
It performs well at temperatures exceeding 1100°C, making it suitable for high-temperature environments.
Petrochemical and Refinery Tube Hangers:
In petrochemical plants and refineries, 253MA is employed for tube hangers.
Its resistance to oxidation and high-temperature strength make it ideal for these critical components.
Rolling Mill Equipment:
Rolling mills, especially heating furnaces, use 253MA for heat treatment furnace accessories.
Its creep strength and oxidation resistance ensure reliable performance.
Boiler Nozzles and Radiant Tubes:
253MA is utilized in boiler nozzles, corrugated boxes, cyclone separators, and radiant tubes.
Its excellent oxide stability and toughness are advantageous in these applications.
Mineral Equipment and Cement Production:
In mineral processing equipment and cement production, 253MA finds use due to its high strength at elevated temperatures.
It withstands harsh conditions and maintains its properties.
Remember that 253MA is a versatile material, offering oxidation resistance, creep strength, and toughness.

Despite its lean nickel content, 253MA offers an outstanding combination of creep strength and high resistance to oxidation, sulphidation and erosion/abrasion at extremely high temperatures. This makes the alloy more economical than most heat resistant alloys.
The high heat resistant properties of 253MA are obtained by the tight control of micro alloy additions. Whilst the benefit of creep rupture strength is down to the combination of nitrogen, carbon and cerium, its superior oxidation resistance is a result of the combination of cerium and silicon.
Its strength at these temperatures is higher than that of alternatives such as Grade 310.
