Hastelloy C2000 seamless pipe and tube (UNS N06200, EN 2.4675) is a next-generation nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy designed to excel in mixed acid environments where both oxidizing and reducing conditions coexist. Composed of 55% nickel, 23% chromium, 16% molybdenum, 1.6% copper, and trace tungsten/cobalt, it bridges the performance gap between C22 (high Mo) and C276 (balanced Cr/Mo) by offering improved oxidation resistance and copper-enhanced sulfuric acid tolerance. Manufactured via seamless hot-rolling and cold-drawing to ensure uniform wall thickness, it complies with standards like ASTM B622 and ASME SB622.
The alloy’s unique composition provides a synergistic effect: chromium for oxidizing resistance, molybdenum for reducing conditions, and copper for sulfuric acid tolerance, making it a versatile solution for complex chemical processes.
Mixed Acid Resistance: Resists sulfuric acid (up to 70% at 120°C), nitric acid (up to 90% at 150°C), and their mixtures, outperforming C22 in high-nitric acid environments.
Superior Crevice Corrosion Resistance: Passive film stability in chloride-rich crevices (e.g., gasket interfaces) reduces the need for design modifications to prevent localized attack.
High-Temperature Strength: Maintains tensile strength up to 1000°C and resists carburization in industrial furnace atmospheres, though it is primarily optimized for chemical process temperatures (<300°C).
Weldability & Formability: Can be welded with N06200 filler metal using GTAW; cold forming requires intermediate annealing for wall thickness >2 mm to prevent work hardening.
Mining & Hydrometallurgy: Used in leach tanks, solvent extraction lines, and pressure filters handling sulfuric acid-leached copper/nickel ores.
Petrochemical Synthesis: Ideal for reactors and pipelines producing organic acids (e.g., acetic, formic) where both oxidation and reduction occur simultaneously.
Battery Manufacturing: Employed in electrolyte processing systems for lithium-ion batteries, resisting hydrofluoric acid and nickel/cobalt salts.
Pulp & Paper: Suitable for digester equipment and bleaching lines exposed to chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) and sulfur-containing compounds.
Q: How does C2000 differ from C22?
A:C2000 has higher chromium (23% vs. 16% in C22) for better oxidizing resistance and adds copper (1.6%) to improve sulfuric acid tolerance, while C22 excels in pure reducing acids.
Q: Is C2000 suitable for seawater desalination?
A:Yes, it resists pitting in seawater up to 35,000 ppm Cl⁻, but its primary advantage lies in mixed acid environments rather than pure chloride media.
Q: Can C2000 be heat-treated to increase hardness?
A:As a solution-strengthened alloy, it is not age-hardenable; hardness is increased through cold working (max 30% reduction for optimal ductility).
Q: What is the recommended cleaning method after welding?
A:Use nitric-hydrofluoric acid pickling (10% HNO₃ + 1% HF) to remove heat-affected zone oxides and restore passive film integrity.

ASTM B622: Standard Specification forSeamless Nickel and Nickel-Cobalt Alloy Pipe and Tube
N06200 nickel is a nickel alloy formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Cited properties are appropriate for the annealed condition. 2.4675 is the EN numeric designation for this material. NiCr23Mo16Cu is the EN chemical designation. And N06200 is the UNS number.
Like other nickel alloys, it is ductile, easy to form and weld, and possesses exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-bearing solutions (a form of degradation to which the austenitic stainless steels are prone). It is able to withstand a wide range of oxidizing and non-oxidizing chemicals, and exhibits outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice attack in the presence of chlorides and other halides.
UNS N06200 (Hastelloy C2000/2.4675) alloy broadens the range of the nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy family with the addition of copper which allows for resistance to an extensive range of corrosive chemicals including sulfuric, hydrochloric, and hydrofluoric acids over large temperature ranges. Molybdenum and copper provide excellent corrosion resistance to reducing media while the chromium content gives good oxidizing resistance.
UNS N06200 (Hastelloy C2000/2.4675) is unique within the spectrum of Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloys because it is resistant to a wide range of corrosive chemicals which includes most types of acids. This is due to the Copper content in the strip itself. Not only can it handle these corrosive materials, it can do so at extreme temperature ranges. Meanwhile, the presence of Molybdenum still gives excellent resistance to corrosion, and the Chromium provides resistance to oxidation. Combining all of these characteristics together makes for a strip alloy that has the same versatility as your standard Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloys with the added benefits of the presence of Copper.
Besides being resistant to acids, UNS N06200 (HASTELLOY C2000/2.4675) also stands up to process streams that contain traces of ferric ions and dissolved oxygen. Furthermore, it is exceptionally resistant to chloride solutions that can lead to stress corrosion cracking, something that is common among stainless steels. It can also withstand pitting and crevice attack when it comes in contact with chlorides. Perhaps its greatest strength is that it is still as easy to weld and to form as other Nickel alloys on the market.
The extremes that UNS N06200 (HASTELLOY C2000/2.4675) can handle make it an invaluable tool in the chemical processing industry. When engineers are creating equipment that can withstand the rigorous demands that chemical processing can put on a machine, it is important that all of the individual pieces within the machine can hold up over time. Otherwise, too much time will be spent on maintenance and not enough time spent on the task at hand. Oftentimes, Chemical processing must deal with highly corrosive materials which have to operate at extreme temperature ranges. Therefore, it needs a strip that can handle both of those qualifications. UNS N06200 (HASTELLOY C2000/2.4675) does just that.
There are 12 corrosion resistant alloys within the spectrum of HASTELLOY. While they all are mostly made up of Nickel, Chromium, and Molybdenum, the 12 alloys all have different variants with different elements infused inside. The variation within UNS N06200 (HASTELLOY C2000/2.4675) is the small amount of Copper present. Though it only contains roughly 1.6% percent Copper, it is just enough to add the benefits, while still maintaining the properties that Hastelloy is known for.
